ICD D-3: Technology Enablers for Embedding Cognition and Self-optimisation into Assembly Systems
The objective of Research Area D.3 is the development of methodologies for the realisation of self-optimising assembly systems in order to answer the question whether self-optimising assembly can reduce the complexity for planning, configuring and rigging of assembly systems in order to maximise value orientation and to break existing limits for product design in general induced by assembly restrictions.
Self-optimising assembly systems accomplish autonomous rigging and optimisation of assembly processes by cognitive abilities. A crucial point to reach this objective is the application of Cognitive Control Units as described in Research Area D.1 into assembly systems. The development of scientifically validated description models of the interactive mechanism of micro, meso, macro, hybrid assembly technologies will deliver essential input information for the decision algorithms of Research Area C.1. Furthermore the investigation on improved assembly mechanisms and technologies will enable the efficient development of self-optimising assembly equipment. Additionally, the efficient adaptation of self-optimising assembly systems into production systems requires holistic approaches including virtual assembly, assembly technologies, automation of assembly, human-machine interfaces as well as methodologies for the planning of production systems.Coordinator
