Decisions in the Excellence Initiative

In the second phase of the Excellence Initiative by the German federal and state governments decisions are imminent. On Friday the 15th June 2012, the Grants Committee - consisting of the Joint Commission of the German Research Foundation (DFG), the German Council of Science and Humanities and the responsible ministers of the German federal and state governments – will decide which Graduate Schools, Clusters of Excellence and institutional strategies are funded.

RWTH Aachen University has applied for funding for the following projects:

· Cluster of Excellence “Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries”
· Cluster of Excellence “Ultra High-Speed Mobile Information and Communication (UMIC)”
· Cluster of Excellence “Tailor-Made Fuels from Biomass (TMFB)”
· Cluster of Excellence "Sustainable Buildings of the Future - Meeting Energy and Demographic Challenges"

· The Graduate School Aachen Institute for Advanced Study in Computational Engineering Science (AICES)
· JARA-FIT Graduate School "Fundamentals of Future Information Technology"
· Mobile Multimedia Graduate School (M3)

· The Institutional Strategy "RWTH 2020: Meeting Global Challenges"

The results are announced at a press conference shortly after the meeting of the Grants Committee. A live stream of the press conference in Bonn will be available from about 3.00 pm at www.dfg.de/exzellenzinitiative.
